Night of Art and Science for Internationals

Art and science are taking over the city center on Saturday. Here’s a list of some of the best English-language or language-neutral acts being held on the Night.

Dance

Location: The Synagogue: Folkingestraat 60
Act: Unblocked
Time: 23:00 to 23:30

Using a dozen multimedia installations, Unblocked emboldens its audience to explore their physicality through dance. The project is a collaboration among 12 participants from the local community, choreographer Edan Gorlicki and cross-media artist Francesca Bardaro.

Act: Club Guy & Roni – ‘Breath’
Time: 20:15 to 21:00, 21:45 to 22:30, 23:15 to 00:00

‘Breath’, inspired by science and the music of Morton Feldman, lets the dancers and the public concentrate on their breathing together – in a world where stress and expectations play leading roles, ‘Breath’ is an oasis of calm.

Act: Intimate Concerts
Time: 20:15 onward

There’s musical performances all over the city on the Night, but in the auditorium of the museum, a series acoustic sessions will put you within arm’s length of some of the most promising musical acts around.

20:15 to 21:00: Cajita & A Seated Craft: Let your thoughts drift away with the combined powers of musicians from England and Berlin.

21:30 to 22:15: Douwe Bob: He’s rapidly become one of the best artists in the Netherlands since being crowned the best singer-songwriter in the country with his country music-inspired debut album.

22:45 to 23:30 Qeaux Qeaux Joans: When she spontaneously jumped on stage to sing with Seasick Steve at Paradiso in Amsterdam, this phenomenal singer was discovered. Currently, she’s working on new material in Berlin, but she’s coming back to the Netherlands for the Night.

00:00 to 00:45 Geppetto & The Whales: A brilliant mix of American and harmony-based pop by a Belgian band – this is one of their first performances in the Netherlands, so discover them before they get big!

Interactive

Location: Minerva Academy at the Praediniussingel: Praediniussingel 59.
Act: Francisco Ladeira – Virtual Redemption
Time: ongoing

Lots of cool interactive events are ongoing at the Minerva Academy on the night, but pay special attention to Francisco Ladeira’s act. Murdering, fighting, stealing: in a game, you do terrible things that you would never do in real live. Confess your virtual sins and leave with a clean digital conscience.

Comedy

Location: Aula of the Academy Building
Act: Boom Chicago
Time: 21:00 to 21:30, 23:00 to 23:30

Since laughter is apparently good for your brain, come play with the famous Amsterdam-American comedy group in their brain-themed programme, full of clever sketches and quick-witted improv.

Academic

Location: Senate Hall of the Academy Building
Act: The RUG’s Top Women
Time:  21:30 onward
