An international Christmas

An annual Christmas celebration hosted by international churches in Groningen invited refugees to join the festivities this year. It was one of several events throughout the holidays to help refugees get to know the city and university.

The city of Groningen and the university are striving to extend a warm welcome to the refugees living in the area this holiday season. In addition to the Christmas party, the Groningen Verwelkomt Vluchtelingen (Groningen Welcome Refugees) organization also held Sinterklaas celebration in November, and the group has plans to host an Eat & Meet meal in the near future.

Meanwhile, the RUG recently gaveĀ a workshop about Social Dutch and a tour of the University Library to the newly arrived refugeesĀ in the region. Additionally, on Thursday, 17 December, a course called ‘Getting to know the Dutch’ will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Offerhauszaal of the Academy Building. A guided tour of the academic quarter of the city, starting and ending at the University Museum, will be hosted on Thursday, 22 December at 2 p.m.
