Internationals love Groningen the best

International students are extremely happy to be studying in Groningen. Student satisfaction at the RUG is the highest in the Netherlands, according to research by the European study choice website, StudyPortals.

StudyPortals is a website that helps students choose the right place to study abroad. It also allows students to review the university where they are staying on the website stexx.eu. Over 40,000 students gave their opinion and Groningen’s top position was determined by analysis of those reviews.

Exactly what students love so much about Groningen is still unknown, though. ‘We’ve been contacted by StudyPortals with these results’, said RUG spokesperson Jessica Winters. ‘We just heard we’re number one based on student reviews.’

Strategically important

Nevertheless, the University Board is extremely pleased with the result. ‘Internationalization is strategically important for the University’, commented Rector Magnificus Elmer Sterken. ‘It’s an important way of strengthening quality, innovation and diversity even further.’

Earlier research by StudyPortals on favourite countries to study placed the Netherlands fifth out of 10. Austria and Sweden came first and second respectively. Students recommended a city first for its culture, and then for its academic  programmes.
