Student organisations headed to new campus

The student organisations are likely to be relocated, just like the ACLO sports centre and the Usva culture centre, to the planned Healthy Ageing Campus.

The student organizations, such as introduction week organisation KEI, internationally-oriented clubs such as AIESEC, AEGEE, ESN, and TEIMUN, student parties SOG and Lijst Calimero, and the Studentenkrant recently moved into buildings on the Oude Kijk in ‘t Jatstraat and the Pelsterstraat. But those accommodations are temporary. According to CUOS who, among other things, is responsible for housing the organisations, there are now plans to move the organisations to the Healthy Ageing Campus.

Plans

CUOS is a part of the work group which is responsible for shaping the plans for the new campus at the northern part of the UMCG terrain, close to the bankrupt Infoversum. It was previously made known that the University College, Usva culture centre and a branch of the ACLO would be established on the terrain. An educational building also needs to be built for the social faculty and medical studies. The relocations are part of the RUG’s long-term housing plans.

The University Board will decide whether the student organisations will indeed be moved to the new campus at some point in early 2016.

According to CUOS, accommodations at the Healthy Ageing Campus will not only ‘provide certainty about housing, but will also offer numerous new possibilities’.
