‘University should translate the documents’

As the only international on the university council, Romanian student Alexandra Crisan wants all of their documents to be translated into English.

‘The RUG puts so much emphasis on the value of its international students,’ she says, but even with a translator available during the meetings, Alexandra can only understand about one-third of the documents being discussed. Vice chancellor Elmer Sterken agrees with her objections: ‘We want to have more international students in the university council; therefore it’s important that all information is available to them’.

Sterken admitted that, even for him, sometimes the Dutch documents are barely comprehensible.
